Vintage Sound Studios

Vintage Sound Studios is a purpose-built, multiroom recording facility developed for owner and engineer Stephen Wareham in North Georgia. Haverstick Designs completed the studio design remotely, using blueprints, CAD plans, and 3D renderings to coordinate room layouts, equipment placement, circulation, sound isolation, and acoustical treatment. The approximately 40-by-70-foot steel structure, with a 10-foot covered porch for gathering and equipment staging, includes a Studio A control room, an expansive tall-ceiling live room, multiple isolation booths, a separate Studio B mixing room, and dedicated lounge, kitchen, storage, and support spaces. Double-wall and double-door construction, separated wall and floor assemblies, and a live-room floor divided into three isolated sections help control sound transmission, while 135 owner-built rockwool panels, corner traps, ceiling clouds, diffusers, absorbers, and movable gobos provide flexibility for full-band tracking, vocals, acoustic instruments, amplifiers, and mixing.


Wareham led much of the hands-on construction and finish work, including fabrication of the acoustic panels and gobos. Regional contractors completed the concrete slab and steel building, while a framing contractor with previous studio experience executed the double-wall isolation assemblies. Haverstick Designs provided the studio planning, acoustic design, renderings, and technical coordination, and friends from the local church and community assisted with painting, trim, staining, cable installation, the stone feature wall, console placement, and equipment setup. Vintage King Nashville and representative David Fisk served as the recording-equipment dealer and advisor, helping select the API-, Neve-, and Lynx-based front end that supports high-quality tracking in Studio A and an interconnected Studio B workflow.
