As this company grew in size, the atrium space became the only room large enough to host all-hands meetings, large training events and celebrations. But the growth in volume combined with the room’s tall ceilings and hard surfaces resulted in excessive reverberation that made it very difficult to understand speech. Employees became increasingly irritated and complained that they could not understand what a presenter was saying. Even holding a conversation across a standard 8’ round table was difficult if everyone was talking at the same time. After Haverstick Designs measured and analyzed the acoustical properties of the atrium, we designed a treatment plan to make the space functional. Treatment included addressing some HVAC noise and strategically applying absorption materials on the walls and ceiling.
