Dirk Ulrich reached out to Haverstick Designs to help him convert an existing 28’ x 25’ x 11.5’ home theatre in his home in Southlake, Texas into a hybrid mixing/mastering studio. The center piece of this studio is the 13.2.6 Dolby Atmos system anchored by a main PMC BB6-XBD system. Additional isolation was needed, so the existing theatre was demoed down to the studs and a room within a room construction approach was implemented–utilizing Kinetics RIM System and Wallmat for decoupling of the floor and walls respectively.
A custom stretch-fabric system was designed with significant bass trapping in the vertical and horizontal corners. The custom ceiling clouds were designed with angles that assisted with focusing the recessed PMC height channels towards the main listening position. A riser was built in the rear of the room for tiered theatre seating. Connectivity between the control room, the adjacent isolation booth, and the multipurpose space below was planned out for ultimate flexibility. The multipurpose space doubles as a live room and has a stage with a Yamaha Grand Piano for live performances when entertaining guests at his home.
