Set within musician Frankie Muriel’s St. Louis home—a former ravioli factory that previously housed the Family Theater— “The Bunker” is a private recording studio designed by Haverstick Designs to deliver professional performance within a compact footprint. The layout combines a flexible control and tracking room with an isolated booth while maintaining clear circulation and equipment access. Extensive sound-isolation construction prevents music from disturbing the rest of the home and blocks exterior street noise, while wood slats, concealed QRD diffusers, bass trapping, ceiling clouds, stretch-fabric treatments, and integrated lighting create a warm, cohesive interior. The resulting acoustic is controlled and dry without feeling overly dead, making the room suitable for vocals, acoustic instruments, horns, drums, and full-band recording.
Markway Construction completed the home and executed the studio’s specialized isolation and interior build-out, translating Haverstick Designs’ renderings into the finished space. Soundproof Windows supplied the laminated double-slider isolation doors, and Argosy fabricated custom equipment furniture. The recording system is centered on an API 1608 console supplied through Vintage King in partnership with API, with additional equipment sourced from Vintage King and Sweetwater.
