Mitch Gallagher Studio

Black Sheep Studios, Mitch Gallagher’s home studio, transforms an untreated, approximately 15-by-15-foot bedroom-size room into a flexible environment for composing, arranging, guitar and vocal overdubs, mixing, critical listening, and preparing product demonstrations and videos for Sweetwater. Rather than undertaking extensive construction or a high-isolation build-out, the project focused on achieving the strongest possible performance with readily available acoustical products. Haverstick Designs conducted baseline acoustic testing, documented the room in CAD and SketchUp, modeled room modes and monitoring positions, and developed the treatment layout. Suspended ceiling clouds, Acoustical Fulfillment wall and corner panels installed with air gaps, rear-wall diffusion, dense window curtains, and an area rug create a balanced live-end/dead-end response that supports accurate monitoring without making the room feel overly dry.


Gallagher and his wife completed much of the installation and personalization, including an innovative curtain-rod suspension system for the ceiling clouds and heavy, lined window treatments that preserve natural light while providing additional absorption when needed. RAB Audio fabricated the custom studio desk and matching storage for amplifier heads and guitar pedals, keeping equipment visible, organized, and immediately accessible so creative work can begin without lengthy setup. The adjoining walk-in closet can support guitar cabinets and may eventually serve as a dedicated amp room or overdub booth, while subwoofer and room-correction technology provide final low-frequency refinement. The completed studio demonstrates how expert acoustical planning, thoughtful furniture, and carefully placed off-the-shelf treatments can substantially improve a modest residential room without a major construction scope.
