Rod MacKenzie Studio

Rod MacKenzie’s basement studio transforms a former pool-table room into a quiet, multipurpose creative retreat for guitar playing, recording, critical listening, vinyl playback, office work, video calls, and future podcasting. Haverstick Designs developed the acoustical design and photorealistic renderings around two primary goals: creating a comfortable, accurate listening environment and isolating it from the rest of the home and the adjacent mechanical room. Behind the nearly all-white stretch-fabric finish are at least four inches of treatment, perimeter bass trapping, ceiling clouds, and a clear rear-wall diffuser installed over commissioned artwork. A bespoke workstation, integrated guitar amplifiers, concealed cabling, centralized touch-panel controls, Dante audio routing, and programmable lighting keep the room simple to operate and ready whenever inspiration strikes.


Haverstick Designs provided acoustical planning, room design, and 3D visualization, while Sweetwater Integration supported the studio’s systems integration and technical coordination, including power, grounding, equipment racks, control, and audio/video connectivity. The home’s original general contractor completed the specialty construction, and Jumperz supplied custom wiring plates and connectivity components. Simplified Acoustics completed the stretch-fabric acoustic build-out, bass trapping, clouds, and diffuser installation, while a specialty furniture fabricator produced the custom desk and its concealed cable-management system. The studio’s commissioned artwork was created by The Lazy Red Head.
