Created as a personal retreat for music and creativity, this Portland, Oregon, home studio was designed around owner James’s workflow and the forest views outside his windows. James wanted a space where he could plug in and start creating, with the sound isolation needed to enjoy late-night sessions without disturbing his household or neighbors. David Hess at Sweetwater connected James with Haverstick Designs, and we worked with Metke Remodeling to bring his vision to life—a studio tailored to writing, recording, mixing, and collaboration, with the surrounding natural beauty at the heart of the design.

Sound isolation measures included decoupled construction and a floated floor, while raising the ceiling increased room volume and created space for oversized soffit bass traps. Deep rear-wall absorption helped address the acoustical challenges of the largely glass front wall while preserving the view. A custom hexagonal ceiling cloud provides reflection control above the mix position, with diffusion toward the rear supporting a livelier area for recording acoustic instruments. Built By Rosetone brought the interior design to life through custom stretch fabric installation and carefully executed soffit details, seamlessly integrating the acoustical treatments with the room’s lighting and architectural features.
